Today we celebrate the wonderful achievements of a beautiful human being, Martin Luther King, Jr. Seen by many as a great leader of the civil rights movement and a significant figure in black history, his memory is representative of human history at its finest. This man taught peace and non-violence that helped change the bigotry of a nation and a global society. Remember him as more than an annual event; his memory should be held in the greatest reverence as his actions, and subsequent social change, were a pinnacle of human achievement.
Helping a race in majority to begin overcoming its misconceptions about the inferiority of other races, he led the path for our brothers and sisters to shine brighter and brighter each day. His work truly began an evolution in human spirit, one that allows us to overcome our xenophobia and recognize that appearance and race are not valid reasons to divide ourselves. King led a people to the promised land, and he opened the door for great leaders to come - one example being our current commander-in-chief.
He had a dream, that his children, our brothers and sisters, would be judged solely by the content of our characters. And while we may still not have attained the unification that we so steadily strive towards, he gave us that leap forward that the oppressed so desperately desired. His dream is readily manifesting itself into a physical being. Because of him, we now have advanced the means and know-how to love, work, and live without regard to race. Because of Martin Luther King, Jr., we may all strive towards our dreams.
Thank you for your transcendence and dedication. We will hold you forever in our hearts.
